The 2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is a three-row full-size SUV starting at $91,945. This model differentiates itself from the standard Wagoneer with additional passenger room, a greater rear cargo capacity, and more features, like upgraded tech.
MotoPickers Rating: 8.3/10
Jeep aims to leverage these features to compete with luxury SUVs such as:
- Cadillac’s Escalade
- Lincoln’s Navigator
- BMW’s X7
- Mercedes-Benz’s GLS
- Land Rover’s Range Rover
The Jeep Grand Wagoneer’s nameplate traces back to 1963, which can prove advantageous in attracting younger and older buyers. However, those who remember early Grand Wagoneers won’t recognize much similarity between these classics and the 2024 design.
For the Grand Wagoneer’s 2024 production year, Jeep drops the previous V-8 for a standard six-cylinder engine while also eliminating the Series II trim level. The Obsidian variant now represents the middle-grade offering. The 2024 Grand Wagoneer is part of the model’s second generation, introduced in 2022. Jeep’s made its first generation Grand Wagoneer from 1963 to 1991.
Positive first impressions of the 2024 Grand Wagoneer include a seating layout with quality room and comfortable seating in each row, a robust powertrain that thrives in performance areas like towing, and a cutting-edge tech presentation. Still, the tech configuration can present a learning curve and other ergonomic issues, which we’ll highlight in more detail later during our review, along with any other significant drawbacks.
Keep reading to learn whether this pricey vehicle justifies its cost.
Exterior spotlight
Jeep’s 2024 Grand Wagoneer has a mostly sharp exterior but trails off to somewhat become boxy and awkward toward the rear. If you’re not a fan of the back third of this vehicle, specifically regarding its sides, colors like Velvet Red/Black make these dimensions easier on the eyes.
Separate exterior color choices include:
- Baltic Gray/Black
- Bright White/Black
- Diamond Black
- Midnight Sky/Black
- River Rock/Black
- Rocky Mountain/Black
- Silver Zynith/Black
Those seeking a blacked-out exterior can opt for the available Obsidian package, which features 22” polished wheels with black inserts, black accents, and black badging. Wheel sizes span from 20” to 22”, and a tri-pane panoramic sunroof enhances the passenger experience for each row. While the 2024 Grand Wagoneer has a confident stance, it’s easy to get in and out with help from the power retractable running boards that you can program to open automatically upon your key’s approach and close when you’re inside.
LED tech is present within the headlights, daytime running lights (DRLs), and brake lights. Driver and passenger-side mirrors integrate turn signals, heating, and auto-dimming that automatically adjusts to lower glare from other cars’ headlights. Perimeter approach lights are remote-activated, meaning you can switch them on with your phone or key fob to increase nighttime visibility. Auto on/off high beams eliminates the need for tedious manual adjustments of your brights for other vehicles.
IJeep rounds out this exterior’s design with practical features like roof rails and aesthetic touches like a chrome grille. Regarding the competition, Cadillac’s Escalade contains a less boxy exterior, while models like BMW’s X7 and Mercedes-Benz’s GLS have more rounded ends. Lincoln’s Navigator is slightly rounded at the rear, and Land Rover balances its Range Rover’s boxy aesthetics with a stronger emphasis on exterior minimalism.
Interior close-up
The 2024 Grand Wagoneer seats up to eight passengers across its three rows. Heated and ventilated front seats are standard, while second-row seats also have heating. Materials include deep-grained walnut trim and leather for the seats, door panels, steering wheel, and center console. This full-size SUV’s headliner is suede-wrapped, and the driver/front passenger seats each receive a 14-way power-adjustable design with a massage feature.
Cargo capacities for this Jeep measure 28.4 cubic feet (cu. ft.) behind the third row, 88.8 cu. ft. behind the second row, and 96.9 cu. ft. behind the first row. You can create additional cargo space beyond the 28.4 cu. ft. behind the third row with 60/40 folding rear seats and utilizing a button allowing the third row of seats to fold fully down.
Interior colors are tasteful but relatively limited, with Blue Agave, Tupelo/Black, and Global Black. Interior ambient lighting is customizable through settings such as Relaxation mode, which projects preset visual displays and gentle audio. Jeep adds power adjustability for the pedals and steering wheel. All three rows have solid legroom, and the rearmost seats can comfortably accommodate adults.
Regarding the competition, Cadillac’s Escalade matches the Grand Wagoneer’s maximum seating capacity of eight but falls short in its cargo capacity behind the third row, which measures 25.5 cu. ft. The Escalade’s primary advantage over the Grand Wagoneer is its increased number of interior color choices. Lincoln’s Navigator also seats up to eight and has less cargo space behind the third row than this Jeep at 19.3 cu. Ft.
BMW’s X7 won’t provide the same third-row space for adults as the Grand Wagoneer, Escalade, and Navigator. This BMW also has just 12.8 cu. ft. of storage behind its third row, while Mercedes-Benz’s GLS has 17.8 cu. ft., and Land Rover’s Range Rover has the least at 8.7 cu. ft.
Power and performance
A 2025 Grand Wagoneer’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six engine produces up to 510 horsepower and 500 lb.-ft. of torque. These specs translate to a best-in-class towing capacity of up to 9,800 lbs. All trims have a four-wheel drive (4WD) configuration, a rear electronic limited-slip differential, and a low-range gear ratio.
The rear electronic limited-slip differential automatically sends torque to the wheel with the highest grip, while the low range supplies slow and controlled power for challenging instances like rock climbing. An optional active two-speed transfer case automatically shifts between two low-end power settings for increased capability in these situations.
Choosing a drive mode feels intuitive with the Selec-Terrain Traction Management System, which is controllable via a dial on the center console. Drive modes include Auto, Snow, Sand, Sport, Eco, and Rock. Changing drive modes alters aspects like shift patterns, torque distribution, and engine responses. While there’s an Eco mode, it won’t do much to help the low fuel economy, which ranges from 13-14 MPG in the city and 18-20 MPG on the highway.
This Jeep’s cabin remains quiet at higher speeds, and the standard Quadra-Lift air suspension helps smoothen the ride. However, the 2024 Grand Wagoneer’s large size makes maneuvering in and out of parking spots more challenging, and driving over speed bumps can feel disconnected.
Cadillac’s 2024 Escalade has a broader variety of powertrain specs, with horsepower ranging from 277 to 680 and torque spanning 460 to 653 lb.-ft. Lincoln’s Navigator offers less horsepower than the Grand Wagoneer at 440 and a slightly higher torque of 510 lb.-ft. BMW’s X7 xDrive40i has 375 to 630 horsepower and 383-590 lb.-ft. of torque, while Mercedes-Benz’s GLS delivers 375 to 603 horsepower and 369 to 627 lb.-ft. of torque.
Lincoln’s Navigator has the second-highest max towing capacity, 8,300 lbs., and the X7 registers last place at 7,500 lbs.
Tech overview
Tech within the 2024 Grand Wagoneer feels fresh, thanks partly to features like voice-activated air conditioning, audio, and navigation. There are also up to 75” of available displays in the first and second rows for greater connectivity and entertainment.
The front row contains three LCD monitors. This SUV’s central infotainment touchscreen measures 12” and enhances navigation with 2D and 3D map views. Below this central touchscreen is a 10.25” comfort display providing control over front and rear seat settings. Flipping the screen gives you access to the wireless smartphone charger. The front passenger also receives a dedicated 10.25” display for control over features you might be too busy behind the wheel to control.
These passenger display features can include but aren’t limited to entertainment, optional rear-row camera views, and GPS destinations. The rear comfort display for control of aspects like climate is 10.25”, and two available 10.1” displays attached to the front seat backs can function in sync or separately. Wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto works with a 19- or 23-speaker audio system with speed-sensitive volume, while features such as rain-detecting wipers and an auto-dimming rearview mirror increase convenience.
Connective services for this jeep include classic features like remote start, but you’ll need a subscription. There’s a dedicated Wagoneer app that streamlines drivers’ ability to perform tasks like scheduling service or contacting customer support. While the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer’s tech is advanced, some touchscreen controls, such as complex menus, are tricky to use.
Jeep’s 2024 Grand Wagoneer contains the most extensive display setup, but its central infotainment touchscreen isn’t the largest among its competitors. Cadillac’s Escalade has a combined 38” curved front display, while Lincoln’s Navigator contains a 13.2” central touchscreen. BMW’s X7 has a curved 14.9” display, and Mercedes-Benz’s GLS features dual 12.3” screens. Land Rover’s Range Rover offers drivers a 13.1” floating display up front.
Safety capabilities
The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) are the gold standard for evaluating vehicle crash protection capabilities. IIHS members awarded the 2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer their second-highest rating of Top Safety Pick, while the NHTSA gave its highest grade of five stars.
Standard safety features within the 2024 Grand Wagoneer include:
- Forward collision warning and mitigation
- Blind spot detection warning
- ParkSense automated parking/automatic parking sensors
- Pedestrian and cyclist emergency braking
- 360-degree view camera
- Active lane management
- Adaptive cruise control with stop and go
Forward collision warning and mitigation senses impending frontal crashes and brakes to mitigate or avoid an impact. Blind spot detection warning is present, but we feel this system should also feature automatic assistive steering given the 2024 Grand Wagoneer’s starting price. The ParkSense automated parking system works in conjunction with parking sensors to detect open spots and guide you in with automatic acceleration and braking while you steer.
Pedestrian and cyclist emergency braking is especially handy in areas like cities, while the 360-degree view camera enhances environmental awareness. Unlike blind spot detection, active lane management in this Jeep uses subtle automatic steering inputs to help you remain centered within your lane. Adaptive cruise control with stop and go is significant because of its ability to extend its use to low-speed situations instead of just highway speeds.

Grand Wagoneer Series III Obsidian – $114,885
The Grand Wagoneer Series III Obsidian essentially equips the standard Grand Wagoneer Series III with aforementioned blacked-out design elements.
Owner considerations
Jeep offers 2024 Grand Wagoneer drivers a three-year or 36,000-mile basic warranty, whichever comes first and five years or 60,000 miles of powertrain protection—both of which are average for the segment.
Final verdict
The 2024 Grand Wagoneer definitely holds its own against primary competitors with extensive and up-to-date tech, a thorough amount of standard safety features, dynamic performance, and an interior blending comfort and luxury. Its primary drawbacks include a boxy exterior design that’s not for everyone, expected low fuel economy, and some maneuverability issues due to size.
We feel these downsides don’t outweigh the upsides, so we’re giving the 2024 Grand Wagoneer an 8.3/10 rating. A few factors contributing to this score are its array of displays measuring up to 75”, third-row seating accommodating adults, and tri-pane sunroof feature. Since many 2024 Jeep Wagoneer drivers are likely to use this vehicle as primary family transport, the award-winning safety design brings added peace of mind.
